Watch Your Miracle Unfold with Rocket Phonics

Rocket Phonics is a research-based, scientifically proven method of teaching reading. Hands down the best phonics program available today, it’s fast, fun, easy-to-use, over three times as effective, and half the cost of competing programs. Rocket Phonics is so effective your child will be reading by the end of the very first lesson!

Created for children ages 4-10, Rocket Phonics turns reading lessons into a world of fun with games, riddles, jokes and classic stories.

Students shine using Rocket Phonics  — Outperform others by nearly 4 to 1!

In a recent study, 43 home-schooled students using Rocket Phonics gained in just three months an impressive 8.9 months in reading skill! This means if your 5-year old used Rocket Phonics for a year, he would be reading at nearly fourth grade level.

UCLA Professor James Catterall, who analyzed the study, found the Rocket Phonics students’ reading improvement was nearly four times that of the study’s other students, who used methods such as Hooked on Phonics* and The Phonics Game.*

"No one who did more than one (Rocket Phonics) lesson failed to improve his or her skills."

— Professor James Catterall, UCLA Graduate School of Education

If you'll play with your child 30 minutes a day,
Rocket Phonics can teach your child to read

Rocket Phonics’ results are consistent. Whether it is students in a study, students in classrooms or homeschool groups, or individual children in the home, students soar with Rocket Phonics. Look at the results from a classroom teacher, who went on to use Rocket Phonics to tutor homeschool children.

“I used Rocket Phonics in my first grade classroom, and was very impressed with the reading progress of my students. At the end of our first quarter, half of my students were reading at second grade level!

I was also pleased to find that, unlike many reading programs, Rocket Phonics is easy to use. The directions are easy to follow and the program requires minimal preparation time.   Adapting the program for use in my classroom was simple.

In addition, Rocket Phonics offers systematic, explicit instruction.  Students begin by learning the first nine sounds in the Initial Teaching Alphabet.  Then they blend those sounds together to form individual words.  Before they know it, they are reading!  Rocket Phonics empowers children, which generates an excitement about reading -- especially for those who previously have not experienced success in reading.

I found Rocket Phonics to be an effective part of a balanced literacy program in my classroom.  In fact, I am so impressed with this curriculum that I recently began using it to teach reading classes to home-schooled children.   It’s a simple, effective phonics program that I would recommend to any primary teacher or homeschool parent.”

Why we developed Rocket Phonics:

After years of research and tutoring and teaching thousands of children, the Guffantis developed Rocket Phonics, the reading program that combines phonics and sight words in a revolutionary way, with revolutionary results.

Why did we create a revolutionary way?

You see, by age 5, your child has a spoken vocabulary of 5,000 – 6,000 words, even if he or she cannot yet read at all. Traditionally, you start to teach your child the sounds the letters make. But then your child begins to look at words such as who, and you say, “Well, the w is silent and the o sounds like oo.” Or your child looks at when, and you say, “Okay, here the h is silent. Then you decide to read numbers, and you look at the word one.  “All right,” you say, “Here the o makes the wuh sound, and the e….” Just imagine how your child feels!

English isn’t a logical, phonetic language; letters have more than one sound, or can be silent. All these different sounds can make learning to read a frustrating guessing game for children. Some children even do whatever they can to avoid reading altogether.

However, with Rocket Phonics, English becomes a logical, phonetic language in which each letter has only one sound. Rocket Phonics gives your child helpers. The helpers show your child how to pronounce each word so your child can read all the words in his or her spoken vocabulary! As your child learns, and no longer needs the helpers, we gradually remove them. The Rocket Phonics book includes classic stories written at first to sixth grade reading level.

With Rocket Phonics, before you know it, your child is an independent reader

Rocket Phonics works because your kids never have to guess while reading!

These are the four biggest myths about learning to read that block most readers:

  1. Phonics is learning rules which tell you when a letter has a sound or not.
  2. Sight words are learned by memorizing a list of words, and they aren't taught in a real phonics program.
  3. Sight words are simply non-phonetic words.
  4. Phonics is better than sight words.

The plain truth is great readers have both strong phonics and a great number of sight words.

Think about it. If you phonetically sound out every letter on this web page would you remember the beginning of the page by the time you got here?  Reading comprehension depends on reading fast enough to remember the beginning of the page.  Sight words are simply words you have decoded often enough to recognize by sight.  Some are phonetic; some aren't.  Wouldn't you agree that you need both?

Reading programs fail because their phonics system is not strong enough to help your child develop sight words

The purpose of phonics is to allow a reader to decode any word he or she doesn't recognize. For the beginning reader, that is almost all the words he is trying to read. Most reading programs  use a rule-based approach and then have to write books with words that fit those rules. Once the child reads anything outside of those books he is surprised by the exceptions to the rules. Each time his decoding efforts fail he is less interested in trying again. In essence, the child doesn't fail to read, he is just using a phonics system too weak to help him consistently decode. It is reading words in sentences that gives the child the context to attach meaning to little function words, even those like The or And.

Weak phonics systems have two causes: inadequate phonemic awareness and phonics rules with too many exceptions. Phonemic awareness teaches the sounds of the language. Only then can phonics, which links those sounds to a letter, help. If your child is taught a series of rules with lots of exceptions, then he will be unsure of the exact sound of every letter he is reading and he will have to guess. Each wrong guess degrades his confidence until he doesn't want to try any more.  As a result of weak phonics systems, 68% of our children read below grade level and nearly half the adults in America are functionally illiterate.

Rocket Phonics starts with fun children's games that both test and teach phonemic awareness. When your child begins to use the program, he will learn his phonics system by playing games until he masters the concepts. The Rocket Phonics program turns the phonics system into helpers and the helpers tell your child the exact sound of each letter until the word becomes stored in the child's visual memory - (they are now sight words for him).

It turns out that the secret to learning sight words is to keep the child reading. This is the task of the phonics system. Rocket Phonics' program takes the guesswork out of decoding until your child gains the words as sight words, and decoding is no longer necessary for those words.

Why will my child do so well with Rocket Phonics?

Because Rocket Phonics has the strongest phonics system ever invented

In fact, the Rocket Phonics method is so unique it has a patent pending.  Look at how we handle non-phonetic words. We color-code each word. The blue letters keep their sound. If the letter doesn't keep its color (blue) it doesn't keep its sound and the true sound is underneath. The child sees the word correctly spelled and decodes the word every time.

Kids use phonics to read words they don't recognize. The words they do recognize are their sight words. When they are fast enough to be fluent (reading at roughly the speed at which they talk), their reading comprehension increases dramatically.
